EH&S is responsible for the management of regulated wastes at Pitt. No lab chemicals or untreated biological wastes should be placed in general trash, flushed down drains or otherwise inappropriately disposed. Contact EH&S at 412-624-9505 with questions regarding proper disposal procedures.
Controlled substances that are expired or are no longer of use to your research must be disposed of through a reverse distributor. EH&S has made arrangements with reverse distributors to ensure that unwanted/expired controlled substances are securely transported and completely destroyed in compliance with EPA and DEA disposal requirements.
To dispose of a controlled substance, complete the Unwanted/Expired Controlled Substances Disposal Form and submit at least a week prior to the applicable disposal date.
